An extraordinary collection from one of the most legendary lost distilleries in the world of rum.
The Caroni Trinidad Collection brings together five rare expressions from Trinidad’s celebrated Caroni Distillery, which closed permanently in 2003. Once renowned for producing the powerful, characterful heavy rums of Trinidad, Caroni has since achieved cult status among collectors, with the remaining stocks becoming increasingly scarce.
Presented together, these five bottles offer a remarkable journey through the unmistakable Caroni style—from the vibrant intensity of the 12 Year Old through progressively deeper tropical maturation, culminating in the magnificent 21 Year Old.
Caroni 12 Year Old 2000 – 50% ABV
The introduction to the collection. Fresh and powerful, with dried tropical fruit, vanilla and spice developing into the tar, leather, smoke and distinctive industrial character that defines Caroni.
Caroni 15 Year Old 1998 – 52% ABV
Fifteen years of tropical maturation bring greater concentration and complexity, combining dark molasses, dried fruit and spice with smoky oak, leather and Caroni’s unmistakable hydrocarbon character.
Caroni 17 Year Old 1998 – 55% ABV
Rich, muscular and wonderfully expressive. Dark fruit, treacle, tobacco and bitter chocolate meet smoke, tar and oily industrial notes in one of the classic mature expressions of the Caroni style.
Caroni 18 Year Old 2000 “Replica” – 51.4% ABV
A particularly collectible release whose presentation recreates the appearance of an original historic Caroni bottling. Eighteen years of tropical aging produce remarkable depth, with caramelized fruit, molasses, tobacco, spice, smoke and the distillery’s legendary “Caroni funk.”
Caroni 21 Year Old 1996 – 57.18% ABV
The pinnacle of the collection. Twenty-one years of tropical maturation have created a monumental rum of extraordinary concentration—dark molasses, dried tropical fruit, liquorice, tobacco, bitter chocolate and spice layered with tar, smoke, rubber and petroleum notes. Powerful, complex and exceptionally long.
Founded in Trinidad in 1918, Caroni became famous for its distinctive heavy molasses rums. When the distillery closed in 2003, production ended forever.
The remaining barrels subsequently attracted the attention of Luca Gargano of Velier, whose selections helped reveal Caroni’s extraordinary character to a new generation of rum enthusiasts. Today, the distillery occupies a special place in the world of collectible spirits.
There will never be another vintage of Caroni.
Every surviving bottle therefore represents a finite piece of Trinidad’s distilling history—and every bottle opened makes the remaining collection a little rarer.
What makes this collection particularly special is the opportunity to taste the evolution of a single legendary distillery across 12, 15, 17, 18 and 21 years of maturation.
Taste them side by side and experience the progression from fruit and raw distillery character toward increasingly profound layers of molasses, oak, tobacco, spice, smoke and the unmistakable tar-and-petroleum character that has made Caroni famous among serious rum collectors.
