Capanna 2019 · Mastrojanni 2019 · Il Poggione 2019
An exceptional Holiday Gift for lovers of Italian wine, The Brunello 2019 Collection brings together three distinguished interpretations of Brunello di Montalcino from the outstanding 2019 vintage.
Featuring one bottle each from Capanna, Mastrojanni and Il Poggione, this collection offers the opportunity to explore how three estates interpret the same grape, appellation and vintage through their individual vineyards, terroirs and winemaking traditions.
All three wines are produced from 100% Sangiovese, yet each possesses its own distinctive personality—making this a fascinating comparative tasting as well as a beautiful addition to any wine cellar.
Montosoli · Northern Montalcino
From the highly regarded Montosoli area north of Montalcino, Capanna produces a traditionally styled Brunello combining structure with elegance.
The 2019 offers beautiful ripe cherry and red berries, accompanied by dried flowers, Mediterranean herbs, tobacco and spice. Fresh acidity and firm, refined tannins give the wine excellent definition and long-term potential.
Capanna has been owned by the Cencioni family since 1957, and founder Giuseppe Cencioni was among the original founders of the Brunello di Montalcino consortium.
THE STYLE: Structured · Savory · Elegant · Traditional
Castelnuovo dell’Abate · Southeastern Montalcino
Mastrojanni offers a wonderfully refined expression from the southeastern sector of Montalcino.
The 2019 combines red cherry, wild berries and dried flowers with layers of spice, herbs, earth and mineral character. There is impressive depth, but also a beautiful sense of freshness and precision.
Elegant tannins and a long, savory finish make this a sophisticated expression of Sangiovese and an exciting contrast to the other two wines in the collection.
THE STYLE: Refined · Mineral · Complex · Precise
Sant’Angelo in Colle · Southern Montalcino
One of Montalcino’s historic estates, Il Poggione brings a richer and more powerful personality to the collection.
The 2019 is generous and beautifully structured, with ripe cherry, plum and dark berries joined by violet, leather, tobacco, herbs and warm spice.
There is considerable concentration, but the freshness of the vintage and polished Sangiovese tannins provide excellent balance and impressive ageing potential.
THE STYLE: Rich · Powerful · Classical · Age-Worthy
The real pleasure of this collection is experiencing three interpretations of the same extraordinary vintage.
CAPANNA
The structure and elegance of Montosoli in northern Montalcino.
MASTROJANNI
The refinement and mineral character of Castelnuovo dell’Abate in the southeast.
IL POGGIONE
The richness and depth of Sant’Angelo in Colle in southern Montalcino.
Open the three bottles together and the collection becomes a wonderful comparative Brunello tasting, revealing how vineyard location and winemaking philosophy can create remarkably different expressions from the same grape and vintage.
Alternatively, cellar the bottles and follow their individual evolution over the coming decade and beyond.
2019 is widely regarded as one of the great modern vintages for Brunello di Montalcino.
The vintage produced Sangiovese with the qualities collectors look for in serious Brunello: beautiful aromatic definition, concentrated fruit, vibrant acidity, refined tannins and excellent balance.
It is precisely this combination that makes a three-estate collection so compelling. Each producer has its own personality, yet the quality and balance of the vintage provide a common thread running through all three wines.
These are Brunellos that can already be enjoyed with appropriate decanting, but the greater pleasure may come from allowing them to develop further in the cellar.
Few wines communicate a sense of place quite like Brunello.
Produced exclusively from Sangiovese within the hills surrounding Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino can change dramatically depending on vineyard altitude, exposure, soils and location.
This collection allows the recipient to explore those differences without ever leaving Montalcino.
From Montosoli in the north, through Castelnuovo dell’Abate in the southeast, to Sant’Angelo in Colle in the south, the three bottles create a small vinous journey through one of Italy's most celebrated wine regions.
For someone passionate about Italian wine, The Brunello 2019 Collection offers something more meaningful than simply three prestigious bottles.
It creates an experience.
The recipient can organize a dinner, open all three wines and discover the subtle differences between three producers, three terroirs and three interpretations of Sangiovese from the same vintage.
That makes this an especially thoughtful gift for a wine enthusiast—and an impressive choice for an important client or business partner.
