STAG’S LEAP WINE CELLARS – Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
Stags Leap District, Napa Valley, California, USA
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cask 23 2009 is one of Napa Valley’s most celebrated Cabernet Sauvignons, crafted from the estate’s historic FAY and S.L.V. (Stag’s Leap Vineyard) parcels in the prestigious Stags Leap District.
The name “Cask 23” originates from a remarkable barrel discovered in the early 1970s that showed exceptional quality. Today the wine is produced as a blend of the best lots from the estate’s vineyards, combining the structure and depth of S.L.V. with the elegance and aromatic lift of FAY.
Deep ruby in colour with developing garnet reflections. The nose reveals aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry, layered with notes of cedar, graphite, cocoa, and sweet spice. On the palate the wine is rich, refined, and beautifully balanced, showing flavours of ripe black fruit, mocha, tobacco, and subtle oak, supported by polished tannins and vibrant acidity, finishing long and elegant.
Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc
Sourced from FAY and S.L.V. vineyards
Aged in French oak barrels
Elegant and structured Napa Valley Cabernet
Excellent with grilled steak, lamb, venison, braised short ribs, and aged cheeses.
The 2009 vintage is entering a beautiful stage of maturity, offering both vibrant fruit and emerging tertiary complexity, with the ability to age gracefully for another 10–15 years.
