STAG’S LEAP WINE CELLARS – Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
Stags Leap District, Napa Valley, California, USA
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cask 23 2004 is a flagship wine from the celebrated Stags Leap District, produced from the estate’s historic FAY and S.L.V. (Stag’s Leap Vineyard) parcels. The wine represents the finest selection of fruit from these vineyards and is considered one of Napa Valley’s benchmark Cabernet Sauvignons.
The name “Cask 23” dates back to the early 1970s when a single barrel from the S.L.V. vineyard stood out for its exceptional quality. Today the wine blends the power and structure of S.L.V. with the aromatic elegance and softness of FAY, creating a wine that balances richness with finesse.
Deep garnet in colour with evolved brick reflections. The nose reveals aromas of blackcurrant, dried cherry, and plum, layered with notes of cedar, leather, tobacco, and graphite. On the palate the wine is rich, silky, and beautifully mature, showing flavours of dark fruit, cocoa, espresso, and subtle spice, supported by integrated tannins and a long, elegant finish.
Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc
From the FAY and S.L.V. vineyards in Stags Leap District
Aged in French oak barrels
Elegant, structured Napa Valley Cabernet
Excellent with prime rib, grilled steak, lamb, venison, and aged cheeses.
The 2004 vintage is fully mature and drinking beautifully now, offering complex tertiary notes while still maintaining remarkable balance.
