Campbeltown Single Malt | Limited Release | Port Wood Matured
A rare and much-admired expression from Springbank, the 1989 Port Wood 13-year-old showcases the distillery’s traditional oil-rich character elevated by full-term maturation in Port casks. Bottled in the early 2000s in limited quantities, this release is now highly collectible and prized for its balance of Campbeltown coastal depth with lush, ruby-toned sweetness from the fortified wine cask.
Rich, warm and instantly evocative. Notes of ripe red berries, raspberry compote, and dried cherries mingle with Springbank’s signature aromas of damp maritime oak, light smoke, engine oil, and salted barley husk. A subtle layer of rose petal, dried figs, and old leather lingers beneath.
Full-bodied, oily, and wonderfully structured. The Port influence delivers blackcurrant, plum reduction, and dark chocolate, wrapped around Springbank’s earthy, mineral-driven core. Hints of brine, gentle peat smoke, and toffee develop, followed by touches of cinnamon, walnut, and treacle. Exceptional integration between sweetness and Campbeltown funk.
Long, warming, and deeply satisfying. Waves of red fruit, cocoa, and spiced oak give way to coastal salinity, embers of peat, and a lingering berry-tinged malt. Dry, slightly tannic Port notes fading gracefully.
A beautiful demonstration of how Port casks can complement—not overwhelm—Springbank’s unmistakable character. Rich, oily, coastal, sweet, and subtly smoky, this 1989 vintage stands as one of the more distinctive early-2000s Springbank wood-influenced bottlings. Rare, elegant, and increasingly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs.
