A powerful, expressive Grand Cru Chablis, combining the natural richness of Bougros with the freshness, minerality, and precision that define great Chardonnay from Chablis.
The 2023 is generous and beautifully concentrated, showing ripe white peach, citrus and orchard fruit alongside subtle pastry, almond and mineral notes. Richer and broader than many Chablis, it nevertheless retains excellent acidity and a long, energetic finish.
Region: Burgundy, France
Appellation: Chablis Grand Cru AOC
Grand Cru: Bougros
Vintage: 2023
Producer: Domaine Roland Lavantureux
Grape: 100% Chardonnay
Alcohol: 13% ABV
Style: Dry White Burgundy
Bougros lies at the northern end of the celebrated Chablis Grand Cru hillside, overlooking the village of Chablis on the right bank of the Serein.
The Lavantureux fruit comes from the western part of Bougros, rising toward Les Preuses. Its exposure provides excellent late-afternoon sunshine, contributing to the naturally ripe, generous, and powerful character Bougros is known for.
The domaine has produced this cuvée since 2013.
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel, preserving freshness and aromatic precision.
The wine is then matured for approximately 12–15 months, with:
80% in Burgundy barrels · 20% in stainless steel
The barrel component contributes depth and complexity, while the stainless-steel portion helps preserve the freshness and mineral definition of Chablis.
Nose:
Ripe white peach, citrus and orchard fruit with subtle notes of almond, pastry and crushed stone.
Palate:
Broad, concentrated and beautifully textured. Ripe Chardonnay fruit gives the wine considerable volume, balanced by vibrant acidity and a distinctive limestone-driven mineral character.
Structure:
Full-bodied by Chablis standards, with genuine Grand Cru concentration. The richness is balanced by freshness and mineral tension, giving the wine both immediate appeal and excellent aging potential.
Finish:
Long and persistent, with citrus, ripe stone fruit, almond, and mineral notes lingering beautifully.
Roland Lavantureux Bougros 2023 shows the more opulent side of Grand Cru Chablis.
Bougros is naturally generous, and the warm exposure of this parcel gives the Chardonnay impressive ripeness and concentration. Lavantureux balances that richness with the freshness and mineral character essential to great Chablis.
The result is a compelling combination of:
White Peach · Citrus · Orchard Fruit · Almond · Pastry · Limestone · Mineral Freshness
Drink: 2026–2040+
Preferred Window: 2028–2037
The 2023 is already expressive enough to enjoy young, particularly for those who appreciate powerful, fruit-driven Grand Cru Chablis.
If opening now, give the wine approximately 30–45 minutes in the glass or open bottle.
Over the next several years, the youthful fruit should integrate, developing more complex notes of preserved lemon, hazelnut, oyster shell, pastry, and spice.
Serving Temperature: 11–13°C
Serve in a generous white Burgundy glass, not excessively chilled.
The richness of Bougros makes this particularly successful with more substantial seafood and white-meat dishes.
Recommended Pairings:
Osetra Caviar · Lobster · Langoustines · King Crab · Scallops · Turbot · Dover Sole · Sea Bass · Roast Chicken · Veal · Creamy Seafood Dishes · Morels · Comté
This Grand Cru Chablis can comfortably handle a luxurious dish.
Pair with butter-poached lobster, seared scallops,s or turbot with beurre blanc. It would also be excellent with roast chicken and morels, where the wine's richness and developing nutty complexity can really shine.
Serve at approximately 12°C in a large Burgundy glass and allow it to evolve throughout the meal
