Single Cru Barbaresco | Powerful, Classical, and Beautifully Mature
Region: Barbaresco DOCG, Piedmont, Italy
Cru: Montestefano
Grape: 100% Nebbiolo
Style: Structured, savoury, elegant, and profoundly age-worthy
Nose:
Deeply expressive and beautifully evolved, opening with layers of dried rose petals, sour cherry, wild strawberry, orange peel, tobacco leaf, leather, forest floor, truffle, licorice, tea leaf, and sweet spice. Montestefano’s hallmark intensity and earthy depth are beautifully present, delivering a more serious and brooding aromatic profile than softer Barbaresco crus.
Palate:
Powerful yet refined, revealing flavours of red cherry, dried raspberry, blood orange, tobacco, black tea, spice, savoury herbs, truffle, and earthy minerality. Richly textured for Barbaresco, the palate combines mature tertiary complexity with remarkable freshness and precision. Compared with gentler crus such as Rio Sordo or Pora, Montestefano tends to show greater structure, concentration, and longevity.
Structure:
Medium to full-bodied with firm yet beautifully integrated tannins, vibrant acidity, and remarkable balance. The Montestefano cru, widely regarded as one of Barbaresco’s greatest vineyard sites, is celebrated for producing wines of depth, structure, and extraordinary ageing potential, often considered among the appellation’s most “Barolo-like” expressions. Rivella Serafino follows a traditional winemaking philosophy, favouring long ageing and terroir transparency over modern extraction. The 2007 vintage brought additional generosity and approachability while retaining classical Nebbiolo tension.
Finish:
Long, savoury, and beautifully persistent, lingering with dried flowers, tobacco, orange peel, truffle, spice, and mineral complexity. Noble, layered, and deeply satisfying.
