An elegant and beautifully structured Brunello di Montalcino from Gaja’s Pieve Santa Restituta estate, the 2019 captures the exceptional quality of the vintage with remarkable purity, freshness and finesse.
Made entirely from Sangiovese, this is a refined interpretation of Brunello: ripe red fruit, floral aromatics and savory Tuscan character supported by vibrant acidity and finely sculpted tannins. It has the structure for extended aging but already displays the balance and polish characteristic of the Gaja family.
Producer: Pieve Santa Restituta – Gaja

Appellation: Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Grape: 100% Sangiovese
Vintage: 2019
Style: Dry, full-bodied, structured red

Palate: Elegant and energetic, with beautifully defined cherry and red berry fruit at its core. Savory herbs, spice, and mineral nuances add complexity, while lively acidity gives the wine freshness and length.
Structure: Medium-to-full-bodied with finely grained, persistent tannins. Impressive concentration, but the emphasis is on balance and precision rather than sheer weight.
Finish: Long and savory, with lingering red cherry, dried flowers, herbs, spice, and a subtle earthy-mineral character.
Pieve Santa Restituta is Gaja’s historic estate in Montalcino, which the family acquired in 1994. Located southwest of the medieval town, the estate is dedicated exclusively to Sangiovese and the production of Brunello di Montalcino.
The property takes its name from the ancient Pieve di Santa Restituta, a church located on the estate whose history stretches back many centuries.
Gaja approaches Brunello with the same philosophy that made its Barbaresco wines internationally renowned: an emphasis on vineyard character, precision, elegance, and longevity.
2019 is regarded as an exceptional vintage in Montalcino.
A long and relatively balanced growing season allowed Sangiovese to reach excellent physiological maturity while maintaining freshness and acidity. The resulting Brunellos combine ripe fruit and concentration with aromatic definition, firm tannins, and excellent aging potential.
Pieve Santa Restituta 2019 beautifully reflects the vintage, offering impressive depth while remaining energetic, elegant and distinctly Sangiovese.
2025–2042+
Already approachable with sufficient aeration, but the wine should become increasingly complex over the next 10–15 years.
With bottle age, expect the vibrant cherry and floral notes to develop toward dried roses, tobacco, leather, forest floor, balsamic herbs, and earthy spice.
If drinking now, decant for approximately 1–2 hours and serve at 16–18°C.
Excellent with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised beef, wild boar ragù, pappardelle with mushrooms, porcini risotto, truffle dishes and aged Pecorino Toscano.
The wine's natural acidity also makes it particularly successful with tomato-based meat dishes and traditional Tuscan cuisine.
A superb introduction to Gaja’s interpretation of Brunello di Montalcino.
Compared with the estate's prestigious Rennina and Sugarille, the classic Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello offers a particularly attractive combination of pedigree, approachability and value.
The outstanding 2019 vintage makes this an excellent bottle both for drinking and cellaring. For guests who know Gaja primarily through Barbaresco, this is a wonderful opportunity to discover how the family's philosophy translates to the Sangiovese of Montalcino.
