A precise and chalk-driven Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne, presented in the slower-evolving 1.5-liter magnum format.
Pierre Péters’ signature Cuvée de Réserve is produced entirely from Chardonnay grown in the Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, with the majority of the fruit traditionally coming from the domaine’s home village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
The use of a substantial proportion of older reserve wines adds depth to the naturally fresh, mineral character of the Chardonnay.

Cuvée de Réserve is the signature Champagne of Pierre Péters, a family estate based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
It is assembled entirely from Chardonnay grown in Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, including Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant.
Rather than relying solely on the most recent harvest, Rodolphe Péters incorporates a significant proportion of mature wines from the estate's Perpetual Reserve.
The estate established this reserve using wines from important earlier harvests and has since refreshed it with younger wines, creating a continuous reserve spanning more than two decades.
The technique gives Cuvée de Réserve additional depth while maintaining the chalk, acidity and saline character associated with Côte des Blancs Chardonnay.
Nose:
Lemon, clementine and white peach, followed by white flowers, fresh bread and subtle smoky notes. With air, hazelnut, almond and chalk become increasingly apparent.
Palate:
Fresh and energetic, with citrus and white orchard fruit at the center. The reserve wines contribute additional breadth and savory complexity without obscuring the Chardonnay's acidity.
Structure:
Medium-bodied, with fine mousse and a combination of freshness and creamy texture. Chalky minerality provides definition through the mid-palate.
Finish:
Persistent and saline, with citrus peel, almond, hazelnut and crushed chalk.
Pierre Péters’ Cuvée de Réserve is one of the domaine's clearest expressions of Côte des Blancs Chardonnay.
The Champagne combines younger base wines with a substantial proportion of older wines maintained through the estate's Perpetual Reserve.
This gives the wine two complementary characteristics: the citrus, acidity and chalk of young Chardonnay, together with the bread, almond, hazelnut and savory complexity of mature reserve wines.
The result is a Champagne that remains fresh enough for an aperitif but has sufficient depth for the table.
A 1.5-liter magnum contains the equivalent of two standard bottles.
For Champagne, magnum is particularly attractive because the larger volume of wine relative to the amount of oxygen beneath the cork generally allows the wine to evolve more slowly than the same cuvée in a 750 ml bottle.
This can result in longer youthful freshness and a more gradual development of secondary aromas.
This is especially useful for Cuvée de Réserve. The combination of Chardonnay, chalky acidity and mature reserve wines already provides considerable aging potential; the magnum format gives those components additional time to integrate.
It is therefore both an impressive format for the table and a particularly interesting format for the cellar.
Drink: Now–2035+
Preferred Window: Now–2032
Because Cuvée de Réserve is non-vintage, the precise maturity of an individual magnum depends heavily on its base vintage and disgorgement date.
A recently disgorged magnum will emphasize lemon, white peach, chalk, flowers, and acidity.
With additional bottle age after disgorgement, expect the wine to move toward preserved citrus, brioche, toasted almond, hazelnut, and more pronounced savory and saline notes.
The magnum format makes this particularly suitable for medium-term cellaring.
For the most precise drinking guidance, check the disgorgement information on the individual bottle, as Pierre Péters provides release-specific information.
Serving Temperature: 9–11°C
For a mature magnum, I would serve closer to 11°C and use a white-wine or tulip-shaped Champagne glass rather than a narrow flute.
The combination of Chardonnay, chalky minerality, and reserve-wine complexity makes this particularly versatile at the table.
Recommended Pairings:
Osetra Caviar · Oysters · Scallops · Langoustines · Lobster · King Crab · Turbot · Dover Sole · Sea Bass · Sushi · Sashimi · Roast Chicken · Comté
Pair with Osetra caviar, oysters or a chilled shellfish platter for a particularly clean expression of the Champagne.
For a main course, lobster, langoustines or Dover sole would allow the reserve-wine complexity to become more apparent.
The magnum is particularly appropriate for four to six guests, where the bottle can remain on the table and develop gradually over the course of the meal.
For a Champagne enthusiast, the attraction is less about overt luxury and more about the combination of Grand Cru Chardonnay, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger character, mature reserve wines, and the slower evolution of the magnum format.
It is a serious Blanc de Blancs with enough accessibility to serve as an aperitif, but enough structure and complexity to continue through dinner.
