Champagne, France — Premier & Grand Cru Vineyards
Composition: ~70% Pinot Noir (primarily from Aÿ Grand Cru)
30% Chardonnay (from Verzenay and other top crus)
Dosage: Extra Brut (low dosage)
Format: Magnum (1.5L) — ideal for ageing
Style:
“1522” is named in honour of the year the Philipponnat family settled in Aÿ. It represents one of the most elegant and pure expressions of the house — a Champagne of structure, minerality, and sophistication, especially in magnum format.
Appearance:
Pale gold with exceptionally fine, persistent bubbles.
Nose:
Refined, precise, and layered. Aromas of white peach, lemon zest, and green apple open into notes of brioche, almond cream, and light spice. Subtle hints of hawthorn, chalk, and smoke highlight the Grand Cru origins.
Palate:
Focused, energetic, and beautifully balanced. Flavours of citrus, orchard fruit, and wild berries from the Pinot Noir core are supported by Chardonnay’s tension and elegance. The low dosage allows the wine’s pure mineral backbone to shine. Fine, silky mousse with excellent length and precision.
Finish:
Long, dry, and incredibly refined, with lingering notes of lemon peel, toasted nuts, chalk, and a touch of salinity.
A magnum provides:
Slower, more graceful ageing
Finer bubbles and greater freshness
More complexity and aromatic depth over time
This makes it ideal for collectors or for a special celebration.
Warm and generous vintage in Champagne
Produced wines with ripe fruit, supple texture, and immediate charm
Still retains excellent tension in this cuvée thanks to careful blending and low dosage
