Oremus Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 1999
by Oremus Winery
A legendary mature vintage of one of the world’s great dessert wines. The 1999 Tokaj harvest is widely regarded as exceptional for noble rot, producing Aszú wines of immense richness, purity, and extraordinary ageing ability. Now beautifully evolved, yet still vibrant.
Crafted primarily from Furmint with traditional Tokaj varieties
High proportion of hand-selected botrytised (noble-rot) berries
1999 is considered a benchmark Tokaji vintage — warm, concentrated, and perfectly balanced by acidity
This is Tokaji in its golden era: luxurious yet endlessly fresh.
Nose
Dried apricot, orange marmalade, acacia honey, saffron, caramelised pineapple, toasted nuts, hints of spice and tea leaf
Palate
Deeply layered and silky — honeyed stone fruit, candied citrus, fig, toffee, gentle spice, with bright acidity keeping everything lifted
Finish
Exceptionally long, complex, and mouth-watering with lingering sweetness and mineral freshness
Magnificent now and still capable of ageing gracefully for many more years — a true long-distance wine.
Extraordinary with:
Foie gras (classic and sublime)
Blue cheeses (Roquefort, Stilton)
Almond desserts and fruit tarts
Crème brûlée or honeyed pastries
Also stunning on its own as a meditation wine
One of Tokaj’s greatest modern vintages
Perfect harmony of richness and acidity
Shows the magic of long-aged Aszú development
Highly collectible and increasingly rare
Opulent, complex, and beautifully evolved — Oremus Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 1999 is a masterpiece of noble-rot winemaking. A show-stopping finale wine for the most special dinners and premium tastings at The Tasting Room.
