An elegant, distinctive Saint-Romain Chardonnay from a 1.65-hectare Monopole vineyard directly beneath the historic Château de Saint-Romain.
The high-altitude vineyard gives the wine excellent freshness and mineral definition, while ten months in oak provides texture and gentle complexity. The 2023 combines white flowers, citrus, and orchard fruit with a rounded, supple palate and a long mineral finish.

The vineyard occupies a particularly picturesque position at the foot of the Château de Saint-Romain, a historic property belonging to the family for more than 150 years.
The 1.65-hectare Monopole sits at approximately 420 metres altitude with a south-eastern exposure.
Its clay-limestone soils and white marl, combined with the relatively high elevation of Saint-Romain, give the Chardonnay freshness, finesse and a distinctive mineral character.
The Chardonnay is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at approximately 18–21°C.
The wine is then matured for 10 months in oak barrels, with only around 10–20% new oak.
This restrained use of new oak adds texture and complexity without overwhelming the freshness and mineral character of the Chardonnay.
Nose:
White flowers and linden blossom meet fresh citrus, pear, and white peach, with a subtle mineral character.
Palate:
Rounded and supple, with attractive Chardonnay richness balanced by fresh acidity. Orchard and citrus fruit develop through the palate alongside subtle almond and mineral notes.
Structure:
Medium-bodied, smooth and beautifully balanced, combining the generosity of the 2023 vintage with the freshness of Saint-Romain's elevated terroir.
Finish:
Long, elegant and mineral, with lingering white fruit, citrus and gentle floral notes.
Domaine Benoît Sordet Saint-Romain Le Clos du Château Monopole 2023 offers a compelling combination of provenance, terroir and value.
The elevated vineyard and white-marl soils bring freshness and mineral precision, while restrained barrel ageing gives the Chardonnay enough richness and texture to make it a serious food wine.
