A powerful yet refined expression of 100% Sangiovese from one of Tuscany’s smallest and most distinctive Chianti zones. Vigneto Quona comes from a single hillside vineyard near San Martino a Quona in Pontassieve, where its elevated position and south-southwest exposure give Sangiovese excellent ripeness while preserving the freshness and structure Chianti Rufina is celebrated for. The 2022 combines ripe red and black fruit, tobacco and spice with firm, beautifully integrated tannins and a long, elegant finish.

Vigneto Quona represents one of I Veroni's finest expressions of Sangiovese and the distinctive terroir of Chianti Rufina.
The historic I Veroni estate is situated in the hills surrounding Pontassieve, east of Florence, with roots stretching back to the late 16th century. Today the property encompasses approximately 70 hectares, including around 20 hectares dedicated to vineyards alongside extensive olive groves. Historic winemaking spaces at the estate date back to at least 1809.
Quona is produced exclusively from Sangiovese grown in a dedicated vineyard near the ancient Pieve di San Martino a Quona. The vineyard sits around 300 meters above sea level with a favorable south-southwest exposure. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts and lasts approximately 25 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in wood and extended maturation in French oak.
The result is a serious and age-worthy Chianti Rufina: rich and structured yet elegant, with the freshness, savory complexity and unmistakable character of pure Sangiovese.
The 2022 Vigneto Quona shows an attractive combination of ripeness and structure. Contemporary tastings highlight ripe red and black fruits alongside spice and tobacco, with a full, velvety palate and impressive length. One recent assessment of the 2022 also noted evolving fruit, licorice and menthol characters, suggesting a wine that remains youthful and energetic.
2026–2034
Already approachable with food and some aeration, but the wine's concentration, acidity and tannic structure should reward additional bottle age. I would recommend decanting for approximately one hour when drinking young.
With maturity, expect the ripe cherry and dark-fruit character to develop toward dried cherry, leather, tobacco, forest floor and savory spice.
Excellent with bistecca alla Fiorentina, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, roasted lamb, grilled ribeye, braised beef, venison, porcini mushrooms and aged Pecorino Toscano. The estate itself recommends Quona with red meats, game and mature cheeses.
Its combination of firm tannins and vibrant Sangiovese acidity makes it particularly suited to rich Tuscan dishes and grilled or slow-cooked meats.
