Gaja Rey Chardonnay 2023
Langhe, Piedmont, Italy
Produced by the iconic Gaja, Rey is one of Italy’s most prestigious Chardonnays. First released in 1983, it reflects Gaja’s pioneering vision—combining Burgundian inspiration with Langhe precision to create a white wine of depth, elegance, and remarkable ageing potential.
A refined, structured, and age-worthy Chardonnay with a distinctly European sensibility. Elegant rather than opulent, balancing purity of fruit, vibrant acidity, and discreet, beautifully integrated oak.
Appearance:
Bright straw to pale gold with luminous highlights.
Nose:
Complex and poised. Aromas of lemon zest, green apple, pear, and white peach are layered with notes of acacia flower, hazelnut, subtle vanilla, brioche, and a refined mineral undertone.
Palate:
Medium-to-full bodied with exceptional balance and tension. Flavours of citrus, stone fruit, and crisp orchard fruit are framed by lively acidity and a fine mineral backbone. Gentle notes of almond, light cream, and baking spice from oak ageing add texture without overshadowing the wine’s freshness and precision.
Finish:
Long, focused, and elegant, with lingering citrus, floral notes, and a clean mineral drive.
A cooler, balanced vintage in Piedmont, preserving aromatic purity and acidity. The 2023 Rey shows freshness, clarity, and finesse, with excellent structure for both early enjoyment and long-term development.
