Volnay, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Olivier Leflaive’s Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles 2018 is a refined and elegant expression of Pinot Noir, showcasing the hallmark finesse and aromatic purity for which Volnay is renowned.
Sourced from the premier cru vineyard Clos des Angles, located at the northern edge of Volnay near Pommard, this wine benefits from a unique terroir that combines elegance with a subtle underlying structure. The 2018 vintage, shaped by a warm and generous growing season, delivers ripeness and depth while maintaining balance and freshness.
Careful élevage in French oak enhances the wine’s complexity without overshadowing its delicate fruit character.
The nose is perfumed and expressive, with aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, complemented by notes of rose petals, spice, and a hint of earth.
On the palate, it is silky and refined, with fine-grained tannins and a vibrant core of red fruit. Subtle hints of spice, minerality, and gentle oak add layers of complexity.
The finish is long and graceful, marked by freshness, elegance, and lingering red fruit.
