A profound and beautifully structured Premier Cru Gevrey-Chambertin from one of the most remarkably situated vineyards in the Côte de Nuits.
Les Combottes sits surrounded by Grand Cru terroir, and the 2022 combines the power of Gevrey-Chambertin with impressive refinement. Vivid red cherry and raspberry meet darker berries, violet, spice, and subtle forest-floor complexity.
Concentrated and mineral, yet remarkably polished, this is a serious Burgundy with fine tannins, excellent length and considerable aging potential.

Les Combottes occupies an extraordinary position between some of the greatest vineyards of the Côte de Nuits.
The vineyard is bordered by Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru to the north, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru to the east, and Clos de la Roche Grand Cru to the south and west.
Georges Lignier owns approximately 0.41 hectares, planted with mature vines around 60–70 years old.
Clay-limestone soils and mature vines give the wine impressive concentration, mineral structure and depth.
The 2022 was produced with approximately 30% whole clusters during fermentation.
It was matured for around 18 months in small Burgundy barrels, with approximately 40% new oak.
Despite the relatively significant new-oak component, the concentration and structure of the old-vine fruit absorb the élevage beautifully.
Nose:
Vivid red cherry and raspberry with blackberry, violet and subtle notes of spice, tea leaf and forest floor.
Palate:
Concentrated yet beautifully controlled, with ripe red and dark berry fruit supported by vibrant acidity and very fine tannins. Beneath the generous fruit lies a pronounced mineral character that gives the wine precision and structure.
Structure:
Medium to full-bodied by Burgundy standards, with impressive concentration, fine-grained tannins, and excellent freshness.
Finish:
Long, precise and polished, with lingering cherry, mineral, spice and subtle earthy notes.
Domaine Georges Lignier & Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Les Combottes 2022 is an exceptional expression of this remarkably situated vineyard.
Its position among Grand Cru terroirs, tiny domaine holding, and mature vines give it considerably more depth and pedigree than one might expect from a typical Premier Cru.
The generous 2022 vintage brings beautifully ripe fruit, while fine tannins, acidity, and mineral structure provide the balance required for long-term development.

Drink: Now–2042+
Preferred Window: 2028–2038
The 2022 can be enjoyed now, particularly for those who appreciate Burgundy with youthful fruit, energy, and structure. The tannins are already remarkably fine and well integrated.
However, this wine should benefit significantly from another 2–5 years in the bottle.
If opening now, allow approximately 45–60 minutes in the glass or open bottle.
From around 2028 onward, expect the fruit and oak to integrate further as more complex secondary characteristics emerge.
With bottle age, expect:
Dried Cherry · Rose Petal · Tea Leaf · Forest Floor · Mushroom · Truffle · Savoury Spice
Well-stored bottles should develop beautifully throughout the 2030s and potentially into the early 2040s.
Serving Temperature: 16–17°C
Recommended Pairings:
Duck Breast · Pigeon · Quail · Guinea Fowl · Veal · Lamb · Beef · Venison · Wild Game · Porcini Mushrooms · Morels · Truffle · Époisses · Comté
A particularly exciting bottle for Burgundy enthusiasts because Les Combottes offers Premier Cru classification from a vineyard almost completely enclosed by Grand Cru terroir.
Pair with duck breast and morels, roast pigeon or venison with wild mushrooms.
If drinking now, serve at about 16°C in a large Burgundy glass, and let the wine develop gradually rather than decanting it aggressively.
