A beautifully poised white Burgundy from the higher slopes of Pommard, combining ripe orchard fruit with citrus freshness, subtle oak and a distinctive limestone minerality.
The 2024 shows pear, golden apple and white peach alongside lemon zest and white flowers. Twelve months in barrel brings gentle notes of toasted almond and vanilla, while the elevated, limestone-rich vineyard preserves freshness and precision.
An elegant and characterful Chardonnay offering an excellent introduction to the domaine’s white Burgundy style.
Region: Burgundy, France
Appellation: Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune AOC
Vintage: 2024
Producer: Domaine Georges Joillot
Grape: 100% Chardonnay
Vine Age: Approximately 30 years
Style: Dry White Burgundy
The Chardonnay comes from just 0.4774 hectares of vines situated exclusively within the commune of Pommard.
The vineyard enjoys a southern exposure on white limestone soils, providing excellent ripeness while retaining the freshness and mineral definition characteristic of the Hautes-Côtes.
The vines average approximately 30 years of age and are cultivated using lutte raisonnée, or reasoned viticulture. Domaine Georges Joillot - Pommard
The grapes are harvested by hand and pressed as whole bunches before maturation for approximately 12 months in Burgundy oak barrels, of which around 25% are new.
This measured use of oak provides texture and complexity without overwhelming the freshness of the Chardonnay. Domaine Georges Joillot - Pommard
Nose:
Ripe pear, golden apple and white peach with lemon zest, white flowers and subtle toasted almond.
Palate:
Fresh and precise, with orchard and stone fruit carried by lively acidity. A gently creamy texture is balanced by the wine’s limestone-derived mineral character.
Structure:
Medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, combining fresh acidity with a rounded texture and restrained oak influence.
Finish:
Clean and persistent, with citrus, almond, subtle vanilla and a refreshing stony minerality.
Domaine Georges Joillot Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Chardonnay 2024 is an excellent example of the quality now emerging from Burgundy’s higher-altitude vineyards.
Its combination of 30-year-old vines, south-facing limestone soils and restrained barrel ageing delivers considerably more character and complexity than one might expect from a regional Bourgogne appellation.

Drink: Now–2031
Preferred Window: 2026–2030
This is already approachable, with the 2024 vintage’s freshness giving the wine plenty of energy.
Over the next several years, the citrus and orchard-fruit character should become more integrated with the subtle oak, developing additional almond, hazelnut and lightly honeyed notes.
The domaine itself suggests an average ageing potential of one to six years, so I would favour drinking this for freshness rather than extended cellaring. Domaine Georges Joillot - Pommard
Serving Temperature: 11–13°C
Recommended Pairings:
Crab · Prawns · Scallops · Sushi · Ceviche · Sea Bass · Roast Chicken · Veal · Creamy Seafood · Mushroom Risotto · Brie · Camembert
A particularly attractive Burgundy for customers looking for genuine Côte de Beaune character without stepping into village-level Meursault or Puligny-Montrachet pricing.
The south-facing Pommard vineyard gives the Chardonnay enough ripeness and texture to be immediately appealing, while its limestone soils provide the freshness and mineral backbone that keep the wine distinctly Burgundian.
Pair with crab, grilled prawns, scallops or roast chicken, and serve at approximately 12°C in a white Burgundy glass.
