Style
A legendary Spanish icon and one of the wines that transformed Priorat into one of the world's great fine wine regions. Produced by the pioneering Barbier family, Clos Mogador is one of the few wines in Catalonia to hold the prestigious "Vi de Finca Qualificada" designation, recognising its unique vineyard origin and exceptional quality. The 2021 vintage is widely regarded as one of the estate's most elegant and refined releases, combining remarkable freshness with the unmistakable character of Priorat.

Grape Varieties
Nose
An extraordinarily expressive bouquet of black plum, crushed blackberry, wild raspberry and cherry sorbet unfolds alongside aromas of wet slate, graphite, Mediterranean herbs, thyme, oregano, Earl Grey tea and green olive tapenade. Subtle notes of cedar, tobacco leaf and spice add remarkable complexity.
Palate
Powerful yet incredibly refined, the palate delivers exceptional purity and balance. Layers of ripe dark fruit are framed by vibrant acidity, polished tannins and the distinctive minerality of Priorat's famous llicorella slate soils. A lighter extraction and greater emphasis on Cariñena in the blend create a wine of elegance, freshness and precision without sacrificing depth.
Structure
Finish
Exceptionally long and layered, with lingering notes of black fruit, graphite, aromatic herbs, spice and crushed slate, carried by remarkable freshness and mineral precision.
Clos Mogador is considered one of Spain's greatest wines and remains the benchmark for modern Priorat. The 2021 vintage marks an evolution in the estate's philosophy, favouring finesse, freshness and terroir expression over sheer power. The result is a wine of extraordinary complexity, elegance and longevity that perfectly captures the rugged beauty of Gratallops and its historic slate vineyards.
The cooler 2021 growing season produced wines with exceptional freshness and aromatic definition. Approximately 30% whole clusters were included during fermentation to enhance lift and complexity, while gentler extraction techniques preserved elegance. Increased use of Cariñena and reduced reliance on Cabernet Sauvignon further refined the wine's balance and sense of place. Production was approximately 35,000 bottles.
