Pauillac, Bordeaux — First Growth
Blend: Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Cabernet Franc
Style: Classic, structured, and aristocratic
Appearance:
Deep garnet with subtle brick reflections at the rim, showing early maturity.
Nose:
Complex and refined, opening with blackcurrant, cassis, and blackberry, followed by classic Pauillac notes of cedar, graphite, and cigar box. With air, nuances of tobacco leaf, dark chocolate, leather, and gentle spice emerge.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with excellent balance. Flavours of black fruit, plum, and black cherry are framed by firm yet polished tannins and fresh acidity. Secondary notes of espresso, cocoa, and savoury oak add depth and complexity.
Finish:
Long, precise, and elegant, with lingering notes of cassis, cedar, and fine-grained tannin.
A cooler, more classic Bordeaux vintage, producing wines of structure, freshness, and longevity rather than sheer power. Mouton Rothschild 2008 is refined and poised, rewarding patience and careful cellaring.
2023–2045+
Drinking well now with decanting (1–2 hours), but will continue to evolve beautifully.
Excellent with:
Roast lamb or beef
Duck breast
Game dishes
Truffle-accented preparations
Aged hard cheeses
A classic expression of Mouton Rothschild — less opulent than some vintages, but beautifully balanced, intellectual, and increasingly expressive with age. A wine for lovers of traditional Pauillac elegance.
