CHÂTEAU LYNCH-BAGES 2015 – Pauillac

Super Fifth Bordeaux | Powerful, Refined, and Exceptionally Age-Worthy

Region: Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
Classification: Cinquième Cru Classé (1855 Classification)
Grape Blend: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot
Style: Structured, refined, classic Pauillac with richness and precision

Tasting Profile

Nose:
Complex and beautifully expressive, opening with layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, cassis, graphite, cedar, cigar box, tobacco leaf, violets, and spice, complemented by hints of crushed stone and subtle floral notes. Pauillac’s hallmark pencil-shaving and smoky minerality are beautifully present.

Palate:
Rich, concentrated, and impeccably balanced, revealing flavours of blackberry, plum, cassis, dark cherry, cedar, espresso, graphite, licorice, and subtle spice. The palate shows both generosity and freshness, with impressive purity and beautifully integrated oak.

Structure:
Full-bodied with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and remarkable balance. The 2015 vintage produced a more refined and elegant expression than the monumental 2009 or 2010, yet with exceptional structure and longevity. Matured in approximately 75% new French oak, the wine combines classic Pauillac power with increasing sophistication and precision.

Finish:
Long, polished, and beautifully persistent, lingering with cassis, graphite, cedar, spice, tobacco, and mineral freshness. Elegant and deeply satisfying.

In Summary

Château Lynch-Bages 2015 is widely regarded as one of the finest wines produced by the estate in recent decades and among the standout wines of the excellent 2015 Bordeaux vintage. Though officially classified as a Fifth Growth, Lynch-Bages continues to perform far above its ranking and is often considered one of Bordeaux’s legendary “Super Fifths”, consistently rivaling many Second Growth estates.

The 2015 vintage delivered a beautiful combination of ripeness, concentration, freshness, and classical balance. Compared with the more opulent 2009, the 2015 is slightly more restrained and structured, favouring finesse and precision while still offering significant richness and ageing potential. Critics have praised the vintage extensively, with scores including 95 James Suckling, 96 Vinous (Neal Martin), and 94 Wine Spectator.

Today, the wine is entering an exciting early drinking phase but still benefits from decanting and further cellaring.
