Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France
Château Léoville Poyferré 2012 is a refined and structured expression of Saint-Julien, combining elegance, depth, and balance with the estate’s signature richness and polish.
Classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Classification, Château Léoville Poyferré is known for producing wines of power and finesse. The blend is typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
The 2012 vintage, while more restrained than some surrounding years, offers excellent balance, freshness, and approachability, with well-integrated tannins and a classic Left Bank profile. Aging in French oak enhances the wine’s complexity and structure.
The nose is expressive and layered, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, complemented by notes of cedar, tobacco, graphite, and subtle spice.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with a smooth yet structured texture. Dark fruit flavours are supported by refined tannins, with hints of cocoa, spice, and mineral undertones adding depth.
The finish is long and elegant, with lingering notes of cassis, oak, and gentle spice.
