Saint-Julien, 2ème Grand Cru Classé
Bordeaux | Left Bank | Cabernet Sauvignon–Led Blend
The 2000 vintage is one of the most celebrated in modern Bordeaux history, and Léoville Poyferré produced one of its greatest wines—a benchmark Saint-Julien that combines power, opulence, and remarkable finesse. Now beautifully matured yet still vibrant, the 2000 Poyferré is considered by many collectors to be among the château’s finest achievements.
Seductive and deeply complex. Aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, and plum mingle with mature nuances of cedar, graphite, and tobacco leaf. Secondary layers reveal leather, truffle, dried violets, and sweet spice, framed by refined oak.
Full-bodied, plush, and exquisitely textured. The palate delivers rich, concentrated dark fruit—cassis, blackberry, and ripe cherry—supported by silky, resolved tannins. Notes of dark chocolate, espresso, licorice, and smoked herbs add depth. The wine is perfectly balanced, showing both the opulence of the vintage and the precision of Saint-Julien’s terroir.
Long, harmonious, and endlessly layered. Flavours of black fruit, cedar, spice, and earth linger with exceptional persistence, showing the wine’s maturity and elegance.
A magnificent, fully blossomed Léoville Poyferré, the 2000 is drinking beautifully now but still has years—if not decades—of graceful evolution ahead. It stands as a textbook example of great Saint-Julien: powerful, polished, and aristocratic.
