Pauillac, Bordeaux — First Growth
Blend: Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot
Style: Refined, aromatic, and impeccably balanced
Appearance:
Deep ruby-garnet with a bright, youthful core.
Nose:
Exceptionally elegant and lifted. Aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, and wild blackberry are intertwined with classic Lafite notes of cedar, graphite, pencil lead, and violet. With aeration, subtle nuances of tobacco leaf, cocoa, and sweet spice emerge.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied, with hallmark Lafite finesse. The palate is silky and precise, delivering flavours of ripe black fruit, plum, and redcurrant, supported by fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. The wine is more about harmony and detail than power, showing remarkable purity and balance.
Finish:
Long, graceful, and mineral-driven, with lingering notes of cassis, cedar, and refined tannin.
A challenging vintage marked by spring frosts, resulting in lower yields but excellent concentration. At Lafite, 2017 produced a wine of clarity, elegance, and classical restraint, echoing more traditional Bordeaux styles.
2024–2045+
Approachable in its youth with decanting (1–2 hours), yet capable of graceful long-term ageing.
Pairs beautifully with:
Roast beef or veal
Lamb loin or rack
Duck breast
Truffle-accented dishes
Aged hard cheeses
A quintessential Lafite — understated, aristocratic, and beautifully composed. Château Lafite Rothschild 2017 may not be the most powerful vintage, but it excels in elegance, balance, and finesse, making it a true connoisseur’s wine.
