Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux — First Growth
Blend: Predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc
Style: Elegant, smoky, and impeccably balanced
Appearance:
Deep ruby-garnet with a bright, youthful core.
Nose:
Refined and expressive, immediately showing Haut-Brion’s signature smoky and earthy character. Aromas of blackcurrant, plum, and black cherry are layered with cigar box, graphite, warm stone, and subtle tobacco leaf. With air, hints of espresso, cocoa, dried herbs, and gentle spice emerge.
Palate:
Medium- to full-bodied with remarkable precision. The palate delivers pure, ripe black fruit framed by fine-grained, polished tannins and vibrant acidity. Savoury notes of smoke, mineral depth, and dark chocolate add complexity without weight, giving the wine a refined, architectural feel.
Finish:
Long, clean, and savoury, with lingering notes of cassis, smoke, and refined tannin.
A challenging vintage due to spring frosts, resulting in lower yields and excellent concentration. At Haut-Brion, 2017 produced a wine of clarity, balance, and classical restraint, less opulent than warmer years but beautifully expressive and precise.
2024–2045+
Already showing well with moderate decanting (1–2 hours), yet capable of further graceful development.
Pairs beautifully with:
Roast or grilled beef
Veal or lamb
Duck breast
Truffle-accented dishes
Aged hard cheeses
A thoughtful, elegant Haut-Brion — smoky, mineral, and finely etched. Château Haut-Brion 2017 emphasizes finesse over power, offering classic Graves character with excellent balance and long-term potential.
