Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux — First Growth
Blend: Predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc
Style: Opulent, smoky, and deeply complex
Appearance:
Deep, opaque garnet with youthful intensity and depth.
Nose:
Highly expressive and seductive. Layers of ripe blackcurrant, plum, and blackberry are immediately evident, followed by Haut-Brion’s signature aromas of smoke, cigar box, graphite, and warm earth. As it opens, notes of espresso, dark chocolate, truffle, leather, and subtle sweet spice emerge, creating remarkable aromatic richness.
Palate:
Full-bodied, generous, and beautifully textured. The palate delivers lush black fruit, cassis, and dark cherry, supported by silky, polished tannins and balanced acidity. Savoury elements of smoked stone, cocoa, and tobacco leaf add depth, while the warmth of the vintage brings roundness without excess.
Finish:
Very long, plush, and savoury, with lingering notes of smoke, ripe fruit, spice, and refined tannin.
A legendary Bordeaux vintage marked by ripeness, generosity, and immediate appeal. At Haut-Brion, 2009 offers more opulence and warmth than cooler years, yet retains the estate’s hallmark complexity and smoky minerality.
