Grape Blend: Approximately 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc
Style: Elegant, structured, refined, and exceptionally age-worthy
Nose:
Deep, refined, and beautifully expressive, opening with layers of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, violets, graphite, cedar, cigar box, tobacco leaf, crushed stone, and subtle spice. Haut-Bailly’s hallmark elegance is beautifully evident, with floral lift and earthy complexity emerging alongside hints of cocoa and forest floor.
Palate:
Silken and impeccably balanced, revealing flavours of black cherry, cassis, plum, graphite, cocoa, tobacco, licorice, cedar, and mineral freshness. Rich and concentrated, yet remarkably poised, the palate combines generosity with exceptional precision and freshness. Less overtly powerful than Pauillac or Saint-Estèphe, yet beautifully layered and sophisticated.
Structure:
Medium to full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins, vibrant acidity, and remarkable harmony. Château Haut-Bailly is celebrated for producing one of Bordeaux’s most refined and elegant expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon, favouring finesse, aromatic complexity, and terroir transparency over sheer power. The 2010 vintage delivered extraordinary structure and precision while maintaining the château’s signature elegance. Frequently described as classical, aristocratic, and perfectly proportioned.
Finish:
Exceptionally long, polished, and beautifully persistent, lingering with black fruit, cedar, graphite, violets, tobacco, and mineral freshness. Graceful, seamless, and quietly profound.
Château Haut-Bailly 2010 is widely regarded as one of the estate’s greatest modern vintages and a benchmark expression of Pessac-Léognan at the highest level. Situated on prized gravel soils just south of Bordeaux, Château Haut-Bailly has long been admired for producing wines of precision, elegance, and exceptional longevity, often offering a more refined and understated style than the more muscular Médoc estates.
The 2010 vintage perfectly suited Haut-Bailly’s philosophy, delivering a wine of depth, freshness, and extraordinary balance. Compared with the richer and more approachable 2009 vintage, the 2010 is more classical, structured, and built for long-term evolution. Critics awarded widespread acclaim, including 99 points from James Suckling and 98+ points from Robert Parker, with many considering it among the greatest wines ever produced at the château.
Still youthful and highly structured, Haut-Bailly 2010 remains in an exciting stage of evolution and rewards patience, extended decanting, or long-term cellaring.
The 2010 Bordeaux vintage is considered one of the greatest of the modern era, characterised by extraordinary concentration, freshness, and balance.
