CHÂTEAU D’YQUEM – Sauternes 2009
Sauternes, Bordeaux, France
Château d'Yquem 2009 is widely considered one of the greatest modern vintages from the legendary estate in the Sauternes region of Bordeaux. Château d’Yquem holds the unique classification of Premier Cru Supérieur from the historic 1855 Bordeaux Classification, reflecting its unparalleled quality and prestige.
The wine is crafted primarily from Sémillon with a small portion of Sauvignon Blanc, harvested berry by berry through multiple passes in the vineyard once the grapes are perfectly affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). This meticulous selection is what gives Yquem its remarkable concentration and complexity.
The 2009 vintage was exceptional in Sauternes, producing wines with extraordinary richness, purity, and balance.
Brilliant deep gold in colour. The nose is intensely aromatic, revealing apricot, peach, candied orange peel, pineapple, and honey, layered with notes of vanilla, saffron, toasted almond, and caramel. The palate is luxurious, opulent, and perfectly balanced, with vibrant acidity lifting flavours of tropical fruit, marmalade, and spice, leading to an exceptionally long and elegant finish.
Sémillon–dominant blend with Sauvignon Blanc
Produced from botrytised grapes (noble rot)
Aged in French oak barrels
One of the world’s most prestigious sweet wines
Outstanding with foie gras, Roquefort, blue cheeses, fruit tarts, crème brûlée, or almond pastries. It is also magnificent enjoyed on its own as a dessert wine.
The 2009 vintage has enormous aging potential, capable of evolving for 50+ years, developing deeper notes of caramel, dried fruit, and exotic spice over time.
