Grape Blend: Approximately 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot
Style: Structured, powerful, richly textured, and classically Pauillac
Nose:
Deep, expressive, and beautifully layered, opening with aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry, cedar, cigar box, graphite, tobacco leaf, crushed gravel, and warm spice, complemented by subtle hints of leather, cocoa, and forest floor. The signature Pauillac pencil-shaving character is beautifully present.
Palate:
Rich and beautifully concentrated, revealing layers of black cherry, cassis, plum, dark chocolate, cedar, licorice, espresso, and savoury spice. The generous fruit profile of the vintage is beautifully balanced by freshness and Pauillac’s classic mineral backbone.
Structure:
Full-bodied with firm, polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and excellent concentration. The 2009 vintage brought additional richness and opulence to Château Batailley’s typically classical house style, creating a wine that is both approachable and age-worthy. Matured in approximately 55–60% new French oak, the wine balances power with refinement.
Finish:
Long, savoury, and beautifully persistent, lingering with cassis, cedar, tobacco, graphite, spice, and earthy complexity. Richer and more generous than cooler vintages, yet unmistakably Pauillac in character.
Château Batailley 2009 is one of the estate’s standout modern vintages, benefiting enormously from the outstanding conditions of the legendary 2009 Bordeaux vintage. Situated on prime gravel soils in Pauillac, Château Batailley has long been admired for producing authentic, traditionally styled Bordeaux with excellent longevity and strong value within the classified growths.
Compared with the more restrained 2005 vintage, the 2009 is notably more opulent, expressive, and fruit-driven, showing greater richness and earlier accessibility while still retaining the classical structure expected of Pauillac.
