Black Tot – Historic Solera Rum
A rich, contemplative expression that leans hard into heritage, age, and depth — this is Black Tot at its most evocative.
What it is
Historic Solera is built using a multi-vintage solera system, incorporating a small but meaningful proportion of very old reserve rums, some tracing lineage back toward historic Navy-style stocks. The aim isn’t power, but layered complexity and continuity.
Style & Composition
Blend of Caribbean rums (notably Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados)
Finished in a solera vatting, marrying younger and older components
Bottled at 46.2% ABV
No added sugar or flavouring
Tasting Notes
Nose: Polished oak, dried fig, sultana, orange peel, antique furniture, soft spice
Palate: Silky and rounded — toffee, dark honey, raisin, cocoa, clove, gentle espresso bitterness
Finish: Long, elegant, and dry, with lingering wood spice and old-rum character
Character
Less muscular than Finest Caribbean
Less monumental than Last Consignment
More textural, reflective, and layered — a true sipping rum
How to enjoy
Best neat, in a tulip or copita
A few drops of water reveal extra dried-fruit and spice notes
Not really a cocktail rum — this one’s for slow evenings
In short
Historic Solera is about time and continuity, not force. A beautifully balanced rum that rewards patience and quiet attention.
