Overview
This is a limited-edition blended rum released in 2024, part of the ongoing Master Blender’s Reserve series created by Black Tot’s master blender, Oliver Chilton. Each year’s edition is unique but built on the same tradition: a perpetual blend that incorporates a portion of the previous year’s rum, together with carefully selected aged rums from classic Caribbean distilleries and a touch of historic Royal Navy influence.
Blend & Style
Multi-origin Caribbean rum blend with components from Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana, and Jamaica.
Bottled at 54.5% ABV — navy-strength, bold but balanced.
No added sugar or flavouring — all richness comes from the rum casks themselves.
Aromatic & Tasting Profile
The 2024 release is known for a rich, layered character:
Nose: Butter-grilled pineapple, lime zest, coconut, chilli, and tropical fruit.
Palate: Smooth and spicy — manuka honey, toasted vanilla, dried mango, brown sugar, cooked banana, guava and citrus complexity.
Finish: Balanced with light licorice, tropical sweetness, dried fruit and a hint of bitter chocolate.
Reviews describe it as smoky, complex, and deeply flavored — with a darker, almost leathery profile on the nose and a long, comforting finish that rewards slow sipping.
Character & Style Notes
This edition leans towards tropical fruit richness thanks to a higher proportion of Barbadian rum in the blend.
It’s simultaneously robust and nuanced — not overly sweet, with warm spices and roasted fruit tones, making it excellent neat or as the backbone of premium dark-rum cocktails.
Black Tot Master Blender’s Reserve editions are ideal for:
Rum enthusiasts and collectors who enjoy layered, high-proof blends.
Tastings that bridge classic Navy-style depth and modern Caribbean expression.
Premium sipping pours or elevated rum cocktails where complexity is key.
